The Mara borders the Serengeti in Tanzania. Every year from around July to October, the Great Wildebeest Migration crosses into the reserve. With stunning scenery, diverse vegetation and abundant wildlife — including the Big Five — it is one of the most beautiful places on the planet.

Amboseli is home to over 600 species of birds and many other animals, including cheetahs, leopards, wild dogs, buffalo, giraffes, zebras, crocodiles, mongooses, hyraxes, dik-diks and the nocturnal porcupine.

Tsavo East and Tsavo West are Kenya’s largest and best-known parks. Separated by the Nairobi–Mombasa highway, together they cover about 22,000 square kilometres and protect one of the largest elephant populations in the world. Tsavo East is the larger of the two.

Tsavo West’s landscape ranges from open grassland and acacia woodland to rocky ridges and black lava flows. Highlights include Mzima Springs, the Shetani Lava Flow, a black rhino sanctuary and the views from Poacher’s Lookout.

Part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site, Lake Nakuru is famous for its flamingos. The shallow alkaline lake attracts flamingos and other water birds and is a Ramsar wetland of international importance. You can enjoy birdwatching, hiking, picnics and game drives, with rhinos, lions, leopards, baboons, hippos and giraffes in the park.

Ol Pejeta is the largest rhino sanctuary in East Africa and home to two of the world’s last remaining northern white rhinos. It is also the only place in Kenya where you can see chimpanzees, in a sanctuary set up to rehabilitate animals rescued from the black market.

Established in 1946 about 7 km south of Nairobi, the park is one of Kenya’s most successful rhino sanctuaries, with buffalo, giraffes, lions, leopards, zebras, wildebeest, cheetahs and many bird species.

Ruma National Park, in Homa Bay County near Lake Victoria, protects rare and endangered animals such as the roan antelope, the black rhino, the Rothschild’s giraffe and the blue swallow. Its landscapes range from riverine woodland and rolling savannah to escarpments and towering cliffs. Nearby you can visit the Simbi Nyaima crater lake, hot springs and the shores of Lake Victoria.

This small park covers the mountain of the same name. It is home to buffalo, leopards, monkeys and many birds, and offers scenic views of the surrounding landscape and Mount Kenya.

Diani is Kenya’s best-known beach, and the gateway to the marine parks of the south coast: Kisite-Mpunguti, Wasini Island, the Shimoni caves and Funzi Island.

Watamu Marine Park is a UNESCO biosphere reserve with over 600 species of fish and 110 species of stony coral. Humpback whales pass the coast between June and October. Nearby Malindi Marine Park, Mida Creek, the Gede ruins and the Marafa “Hell’s Kitchen” canyon make the north coast ideal for day trips.
