2-Day Tsavo West Safari
A short safari from Nairobi or Mombasa to volcanic Tsavo West and the crystal pools of Mzima Springs.
Tsavo West’s savannah ecosystem mixes open grassland, scrubland, acacia woodland, riverine forest and rocky ridges. Highlights include:
- Mzima Springs — a natural spring producing millions of litres of crystal-clear water every day, home to hippos, crocodiles, fish and birds.
- Shetani Lava Flow — a vast expanse of black volcanic rock contrasting with the green vegetation, with unique hiking.
- Rhino sanctuary — a protected area for the endangered black rhino.
- Poacher’s Lookout — panoramic views over the park and the Chyulu Hills.
Best time to visit: June–October for the best wildlife visibility, or January–March for clear skies. The park is open all year.
Itinerary
Day 1: Nairobi or Mombasa → Tsavo West
Early-morning pickup and drive to Tsavo West National Park, with a game drive on the way to the lodge. Visit Mzima Springs to see hippos and crocodiles in crystal-clear pools, then an afternoon game drive. Dinner and overnight at the lodge or camp.
Day 2: Morning safari and return
Early-morning game drive, breakfast at the lodge, then the return to Nairobi or Mombasa.
